Fenomena Penipuan Transaksi Jual Beli Online Melalui Media Baru Berdasarkan Kajian Space Transition Theory

Abstract: The rapid advancement of technology has many influences on human life, including providing conveniences in the communication process, such as through the emergence of new media related to the development of the internet and digitalization. These affects the level of public consumption of internet use, which is increasing every year. The increase in internet use ultimately has an impact on the emergence of opportunities to commit crimes by irresponsible people through new media one of which is online shopping fraud. Therefore, through this study, researchers will see how the modus operandi of fraudulent online buying and selling transactions in Indonesia occurs through new media and how this phenomenon is based on the study of the theory of transition space. This study uses a qualitative approach through secondary data collection techniques from various literature studies related to the research topic. The findings indicate that new media provide space for the accretion of e-commerce and transactions on social media, which results in the emersion of the threat of online shopping fraud. The methods used by the perpetrators to commit online shopping fraud include phishing, pharming, and sniffing. Previous research has also found several other modes, including those already mentioned in this study. With a study from the space transition theory, fraud in online buying and selling transactions fulfils three prepositions out of seven existing prepositions. This preposition generally indicates that fraud which occurs in the physical world will move to the digital world facilitated by new media and the internets.
