Abstract

Building Convenience is closely connected with the natural conditions or the surrounding environment and the efforts of conditioning or arrangement space in the building. Problems encountered in the implementation of aspects of comfort in buildings depends on building objects encountered. For buildings that require quality residential absolute perfect then these requirements should be adopted and implemented. Architectural environmental problems that occur in the tropics are generally caused by excessive heat transfer from the space outside the building into the building and heat pressures that affect human comfort especially the comfort in the building. Humans will do anything to get the desired level of thermal comfort, especially in the building, one of which is the use of mechanical cooling is Air Conditioning (AC). Thus it can be formulated problems that often occur in residences is still widespread use of mechanical cooling in the residential, building design that does not take into consideration environmental aspects and local climate, there is still a lack of knowledge about the application of passive cooling / natural aeration. Based on the above issues and problems, hence the need for an assessment of passive cooling in residences. Passive cooling or forced-air cooling naturally is the best cooling room in sustainable architecture design. This study is intended as an architectural discourse that is expected to be literature in designing a building. Based on the discussion of case studies, it can be kind of passive cooling in residences can have different shapes depending on the local climate. The building is located in a hot humid climate like Indonesia, passive cooling focused on the use of natural ventilation are comfortable with different types of buildings. While the buildings in hot climates dried to obtain passive cooling using a small window, building construction massif, rocks and the wall color is bright, but it is also with the use of drain wind (wind scoops), wind towers, wind catcher and evaporation in the courtyard.
